I made another modification this week. I put on a Powerbronze Light Smoke Airflow windscreen that I got from KneeDraggers.com. Since I'm 6'2" tall, I need the air to be pushed up a bit more, this did the trick (and looks trick too).

I got lucky and got to do a spur of the moment ride on Saturday. I went for a ride in the Santa Monica Mtns. When I was stopped at the Overlook, I met a guy named Gene on a Gixxer 1K. He had it really nicely tricked out. We decided to make a run down to the Rock Store to see what the scene was like. It was pretty dead there, so we made a run down and back up Latigo Canyon. It was just what the doctor ordered because I was out of rythm on the first half of Latigo on the way down, but got back into rythm after that and was really feeling good.

Phoneman, from SoCalSportbikes, called for a ride in the Santa Monica Mountains on Sunday at noon. I decided to get there early to get some breakfast and get warmed up. When I arrived, YodaDada was there waiting for me and, to my surprise, Gene was there as well. YodaDada and I decided to get some breakfast before everyone else arrived. Once we finished breakfast Driven was outside waiting for us.

We decided to do Stunt and Piuma Rd and then come back to pick up the others that arrived later. To our surprise, Phoneman arrived right before we left. Gene also decided to join us for a quick run. We headed out to Stunt Rd via Mulholland. We were warned that there were LEOs on Mulholland, so we took it easy. I still got pulled over. Because my RR is new and has no plates the LEO stopped me to see if I was the legitimate owner. I was actually glad that he did. He said there have been a lot of stolen bikes up there recently. I felt that if, God forbid, my RR was stolen that I would be happy the LEOs were stopping bikes that seemed suspicious.

Once we got passed the LEOs we picked up the pace a bit on my favorite section of Mulholland (had the warm up the tires, right?). We slowed down once we reached the Malibu Cyn/Mulholland Stop light and cruised up to the Stunt Rd turn off. Once we hit Stunt Rd, I picked up the pace and was feeling in the zone. I started pulling away from the pack a bit and then got a bit nervous when I didn't see them when I got stuck behind a slow moving truck for a few blind turns. I went ahead and passed the truck and carved my way up to the top of Stunt Rd.

I was there for about two minutes when (Gixxer) Gene pulled up and gave me the thumbs down sign. He told me that Phoneman had gone down and over the cliff. I quickly threw all my gear back on and raced down Stunt Rd. to see how I could help. It turned out that Phoneman was basically okay, but he and his bike had indeed gone over the side.

He said that he was feeling out of rythm and was trying to correct for being too close to the double yellow when he felt he wasn't going to make the turn. He stood the bike up and got on the brakes hard. As soon as the bike hit the dirt, it lowsided and he and the bike both slid through the dirt, over the embankment and over the side.

As you can see, he wasn't badly hurt. His knee was pretty banged up and his pinky finger may be broken. I feel that his helmet probably saved his life. It was pretty badly smacked up. Everyone felt that he was pretty lucky. The tow truck took him back to the Rock Store and we followed.

Right before the last turn on Mulholland, before you get to the Rock Store, we came upon what looked like it had to be a very bad crash. There were no signs of the crash except for a helicopter taking someone away as well as many patrol cars and an ambulance. We weren't able to get any real details from anyone once we got to the Rock Store. I just hope that the rider will be alright.

We hung out at the Rock Store for a bit chatting with some people we knew. YodaDada decided to head home and finish working on his bathroom. Driven took some of his other buddies that met up with him for a ride. Gene and I decided to head up to the Overlook and check out the scene there before I would head home.

Overall, a good weekend. But it did have it's down points. I'm glad Phoneman was pretty much unhurt and just hope that whoever the downed rider was, that got the helicopter ride, will be okay.
