JuicedGixxer, from SoCalSportbikes, called for a ride on Angeles Crest Highway (ACH) on Saturday at 10:00 am. YodaDada and I planned meet up on the way there and ride up there together. I left a little later than I wanted to and started flyin' down the 118 FWY. I hadn't even gotten out of Simi Valley and was going pretty fast (around 90 mph) when I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a CHP on a motorcycle, lights flashing. He pointed to the side of the freeway and I pulled over as quickly as I could. Once he got off and started walking over to me I recognized him. He was a rider that I had seen before and chatted with a couple of times. Once he recognized me he started to smile and laughed while he said "Oh, It's you". I apologized for my speed and told him I was running late to meet up with some guys. He asked where we were riding and I told him ACH. He then commented on how sweet the RR looked. I asked him if he was going Laguna Seca. He said that he hadn't decided yet, but was thinking about it. He then told me to have a good time and be careful. I was stoked, I haven't gotten a ticket for over a year and was starting to slack off a little bit on keeping an eye out for LEOs.
I pulled off on the exit I was supposed to meet YodaDada at but he wasn't there. I did a couple of loops around and some lady told me that there was a motorcyclist there a couple of minutes earlier, but that he had got on the on-ramp and left. I thanked her and jumped back on the freeway. I arrived at the shell station and saw that YodaDada was there gassing up. I also saw Reduc (who I rode with last week but didn't have my camera with me). PoPo, JuicedGixxer and GixxerThou were also there. We decided to head up ACH and take it from there. It was a quite foggy and slightly misty on the way up ACH. It finally, got a bit clearer and PoPo, our lead rider, decided to pick the pace up a bit. JuicedGixxer, GixxerThou and myself all took chase. We turned on Angeles Forest Highway, but PoPo started to take off before YodaDada and Reduc actually had caught up to the rest of us. JuicedGixxer and I tried to flag him down but it was too late. So we all left before they had caught up.
Once we got to the long straight on AFH (the stunt spot). We waited for a while to see if YodaDada and Reduc would show up. It never happened and we all assumed that they had gone up to Newcomb's Ranch. So, we high-tailed it back up to Newcombs.
Once we got to Newcomb's, we saw Reduc and YodaDada there. We decided to get some coffee and hang out for a bit. We all chatted it up for a while and got some good laughs. Then Reduc told us he had to get home, so we waved goodbye as he rolled away on his 998.We decided to get some more riding in and hit up Angeles Forest Highway again. We were carving our way down AFH when we rolled up on a CHP in an SUV. We took it easy and cruised behind him all the way down. Once we reached the bottom, he pulled off to the side and we all prepared to take a right turn. Once we completed the turn (100% legal of course) he followed behind us and pulled me over. Of course, since I have no plate he stated that as the reason he pulled me over. I told him it was new and showed him my new bike paperwork. He then said that my LP Short Stalk turn signals aren't DOT approved (duh) and gave me and YodaDada a fix it ticket for them. This is when JuicedGixxer realized that he had left his wallet at Newcomb's Ranch. He headed back to Newcomb's while the rest of us continued on to the Stunt spot on AFH.
We hung out on AFH for a while waiting for JuicedGixxer to meet back up with us. None of us did stunts. We all agreed that we would rather carry serious corner speed than do a wheelie, stoppie or any other stunt. Once JuicedGixxer arrived we decided to head over to Boquet canyon. Before hitting up Boquet, we fueled up and agreed that we would go down Boquet, come back up and then get some lunch. We did just that and noticed that it was starting to sprikle. We decided to head back down Boquet and eat at the Big Oaks. We sat around there and ate lunch. It was pretty slow there, but the weather was probably keeping most of the cruiser crowd (the main patrons of the Big Oaks) away. God forbid their chrome not be shiny because it was a bit damp out.
Once we finished our late lunch, we decided to call it a day. We had done some serious carving already and it was coming up on 4:00 in the afternoon. PoPo lead us out and got us pointed in the right direction. We then all slowly but surely split up as we reached our off ramps. Great day of riding, despite the weather and fix it ticket.
