Early this week I found out that my good friend and co-worker, Paul, was going to be moving to Port St. Joe Florida. I was sad to hear this because he is such a good friend and he's the only other person at work that rides. It's nice to have someone that can relate to what it's like to be a motorcyclists. Especially one that commutes to work like I do into Los Angeles. We had talked about riding together many times but had never really gotten around to it. We're both husbands and fathers of 2 young boys, so finding time to get together was always difficult.

Paul had never been to the Rock Store but had heard me talk about it several times. Once I found out he was leaving, I knew that we had to make an effort to get there before he left. He agreed and we got together for a ride over to the Rock Store.

When he arrived at my place we decided to try each others bikes for the first time for a quick trip around my block. It was an eye opening experience for both of us. I couldn't believe how much his BMW R1200C Classic felt like sitting in an easy chair. I was looking around for the remote control so I could change the station. :) I had a hard time finding the footpegs, getting used to the weight and how slow the engine was to respond to aggresive throttle action. It's certainly a cruiser. After getting off of it, I was even more impressed with how Paul rides it.

We switched back to our own bikes (to both of our reliefs) and decided to head out to the Rock Store. We didn't have a lot of time because he needed to help his wife finish packing, so I decided to take the "fun" way to the Rock Store and then we would take the easy way out. We took Decker Canyon to Mulholland. We stopped on at the Overlook on Mulholland and then we headed down to the Rock Store.

Due to the weather being pretty crappy, there weren't nearly as many bikes there as there usually are on the weekend. We snapped a few pictures while we were there. I then gave him a quick tour of the place. After the tour we sat down and had a late lunch there.

Once we had finished our lunch, we came outside to find that it had started sprinkling a little. We decided to go ahead and mount up and head home. We took Mulholland out to Cornell Rd. We then took Cornell Rd to Kanan and Kanan back to the 101. From there, we split up and headed home.

I'm gonna miss not having a fellow motorcyclist at work, but he's got an excellent opportunity ahead of him and I commend him for having the courage to start a new career. Ride safe my brotha.
